I’m Alicia (she/her) and I have always liked movement. I took those Canadian Physical Fitness Standard Tests in school very seriously and it stressed me out when the other kids didn’t follow proper form and let their hips droop to the mat while doing push ups. 🙈 I was destined for a career in movement. Haha!
I continued to run and lift weights and play sports, but Yoga kinda snuck up on me. When I practiced Yoga, I got to move my body WHILE I listened to it. I wasn’t just pushing it. Is was a collaboration and a dialogue between my body and I. ❤️
THAT was different!! I got to move without feeling beat up, and I got to soothe my over reaching brain and I got to sincerely look after myself instead of making the goal to be some vague definition of “better”.
We’ve all tried that approach right, where you’re gonna fix the crap out of yourself and somehow just leave all that behind, and then….THEN, it’ll be better. I think I still have the t shirt from that program somewhere! Haha!
But at Alicia Tate Yoga, we listen and breathe and move. We listen to our body. We breathe, cause quite frankly its a REALLY big deal. And we move.
And moving can look like a slow flow with lots of time to feel things out in our hips so our back feels AMAZING when we’re done, or moving can be a non-stop flow that leaves you sweaty and happy and empowered. But you get to collaborate with your body to decide instead of just pushing or dragging it along all day.
And then, when we do this, we want more, and then we are moving in a good way consistently, and we are breathing more, and we are listening to what we need more and then, we have flow! On our mat and in our lives! It’s kinda magical!!

I have planned entire family vacay’s around food stops. Not. One. Regret.
I LOVE the taste of coffee but mostly drink decaf. ☕️
I have a sweet bearded dragon named Arthur that was surrender to a pet store and just recently got him to eat from my hands! 🦎
We have an old house with a full staircase of 16 stairs which means on Fridays at the Tate Estate we listen to 90’s music while I run stairs. Since i am a reasonable human, everyone else in the house gets to vote on whether they listen to just me singing with earbuds in, or we all listen on a speaker. They alway choose the speaker. Lol
I LOVE BBC shows where rogue priests solve murder mysteries in towns that end in “shire”.
And if you want my smarty pants credentials, I have been trained and certified in Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bakti Yoga, Mantra, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga, Children’s Yoga, Meditation & Mindfulness, Yoga for Trauma and Anxiety, Mindful Art and Yoga, Mindfulness and Wellness Coaching, Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy, Yoga for Seniors, Chair Yoga, trained in Somatic Stress Release and continue to educate myself in different facets of holistic wellness.
I am immensely grateful to run my business on the land of the Blackfoot, Niitsitapi, Tsuu T’ina, Métis and Cree Peoples. A portion of all profits go to Indigenous led groups in an effort to amplify, support and learn from the original keepers of this land.
